Arizona Harvest Fest – New Local Food To Try Today

Taco Tuesday has never been better – new to the food truck scene the International Truck of Tacos hits up Gilbert frequently and was a participant in the Arizona Harvest Festival this past weekend. Full of unique taco combinations and some major heat, ITOT has become one of our new favorite Taco Trucks in the Phoenix valley – and they’re only THREE months old. Featured here, Nikki and I tried two of their tacos. From left to right, we have the Cubano – a taco containing all the components of a traditional Cubano sandwich, including the mustard. It may sound too obscure to be a taco, but you’ll be delightfully surprised. Nikki tasted the Whipper Snapper – topped with blackened shrimp, habanero mango pico fresho slaw, and queso aji amerillo crema. By now you may be thinking – “what the hell kind of tacos are these?” But considering they cleaned up nearly every single award at the Arizona Taco Festival we’re telling you these tacos aren’t something you’ll want to miss out on any time soon. Everyone needs something sweet and fluffy after having an assortment of amazing tacos – Beignets. Not sure what a beignet is? It’s a french pastry – or rather donut. Beignet Babe makes her pastries fresh and on the spot – with a five min or less wait, you can rest assured these beignets will satisfy your sweet tooth and leaving you wanting more. I’m a purist in some aspects and really prefer to try new food in it’s original form before venturing out and exploring new tastes. It’s a way to really understand how well a chef or baker can keep true to the basics and improve upon them. This babe’s beignets live up to the expectations your mind sets. The east side of the festival had an plentiful beer garden, with seasonal brews to craft beer. Although we didn’t get a chance to test any out, the crowd gave their sign of approval! There was also kid activities, a cake walk, and a pie eating contest at the festival!

Not only did the Arizona Harvest Festival feature great food, but it also had great music! Tribal Seeds made the stop in Chandler on their National tour to be the main set. Their California Reggae music puts you in a feel-good, mellow mood, which was perfect for the festival.

We had a great time at the Arizona Harvest Festival and can’t wait to return next year!
