What We Ate: Seattle, Washington

On our recent trip to Seattle, we did it itinerary-free, as mentioned in our last Seattle post. Usually, I at least know a general idea of what places we will be visiting or eating at, but for this trip, I was looking up confirmation emails to find the address of our hotel in the cab because I had no idea.

Although we didn’t go to the “most raved over restaurants”, we ate some pretty good food and drank really good coffee. Here is a preview of places we dined at:

Great State Burger

2041 7th Ave, Seattle, WA

IMG_20170505_120825Welcome to In n’ Out meets organic. We loved Great State Burger! The soda pop machine is all Jones Soda, which was something I’ve never seen before. The patties are made from organically raised, grass-fed beef, and also has American cheese, lettuce, tomato, and State Sauce (I added grilled onions and house pickles, too). The fries are organic Yukon Gold crinkle cut, which are delicious, as well. Just beware of the $13.75 price tag for a burger, fries, and drink (it is worth it though!).

Mexico Cantina y Cocina

600 Pine St, Seattle, WA

Surprisingly, Mexico Cantina y Cocina only had 3.1 stars on Google, however since it was Cinco de Mayo, we wanted Mexican food (plus, it’s one of our favorite cuisines).  I tried the Crab-Stuffed Mahi Mahi, and it was a dish that made me say “yum” after every bite. It was heaven in my mouth. On the menu, it is described as, “Plantain and panko crusted mahi-mahi, stuffed with crab and cream cheese blend, served atop jasmine rice pilaf and grilled vegetables; garnished with mango-jicama salsa and mango-chipotle purée”. I could have easily eaten it every day!

Premier Meat Pies

305 Harrison St, Seattle, WA

We ventured to the Seattle Children’s Museum to explore and play, and before you know it, it was dinner. Wanting to grab something nearby, we tried out Premier Meat Pies in the Seattle Center Armory. I tried the Hatch Chile & Chicken Pie and Tot’tine. The Tot’tine was a play off Poutine, except on tots. The crisp tater tots were covered in garlic and parmesan seasoning, beef gravy, cheddar cheese sauce, and cheese curds. They also had a mac n’ cheese pie that was great for kids!

The Crab Pot

1301 Alaskan Way, Seattle, WA

20170507_15464120170507_154023 The Crab Pot is the ONE food place we did plan to try. We couldn’t leave Seattle without getting seafood on the pier, plus it was on Man vs. Food! We put on our bibs, grabbed our pallet and hammer, and were ready to have fun while enjoying our Seafest! “The Westport” was what we decided on, including Dungeness crab, snow crab, shrimp in the shell, steamed clams & Pacific mussels, andouille sausage, corn on the cob & red potatoes in their jackets. It was more than enough food! They also have a great kids menu. I definitely recommend The Crab Pot!

Moore Coffee

1930 2nd Ave, Seattle, WA

20170506_10281720170506_102916I have only seen coffee art in pictures or videos, so when I got the kitty cat coffee art on my Horchata Latte at Moore Coffee, I was over the moon! I had to have a coffee photoshoot! This family-owned coffee shop was one of my favorites and stood out among the Starbucks on every corner. I 100% recommend Moore Coffee!

Caffe Ladro

108 Union St, Seattle, WA (However they have 15 locations)

You’ve heard me rant and rave about Caffe Ladro in previous posts, however, I had to try it in person. The atmosphere, the coffee, the people…everything! I loved it all! I enjoyed the medici, which had an orange flavor to it, and it was absolutely delicious! Now, when you see the orange cups in Seattle, you know that those people are drinking GREAT coffee!

Overall, although we didn’t plan where to eat, we didn’t eat anything that we didn’t enjoy. I do have one rule when I travel – to avoid chain restaurants, and instead, support local businesses. So, either Seattle has great food, or we have a good eye for good places. Until next time Seattle!

  1. Looks like a lot of fun! I think the Crab Pot is a great stop because not only is the seafood good, but it is a different style of dining that kids will remember as a fun part of their visit! Glad you enjoyed your stay!

    1. Thank you! Exactly! Although our little one didn’t try the seafood, he liked banging on the bread and corn dogs with the hammer! Definitely a great experience!
